Safari Bookmark: Send to Gmail · 172 words posted 06/24/2004 09:49 AM
If you’re using Safari 1.2.2 and have a Gmail account, drag this bookmark to your Bookmarks bar:
Compose Gmail to…
Or simply create a new bookmark and paste the following text in the address:
In order to use it, select an email address on a web page and then click the bookmark. Safari will go to Gmail with the “to” field filled with the selected text. (Thanks to RabidSquirrel for inspiring this bookmark with his Windows G-Mailto program.)
You can try it with my address: marc@since1968.com. If you don’t have a gmail account, you can request one in the comments or via email; I have a few to give away.
Known issues:
- The bookmark doesn’t try to determine whether you’ve selected a valid email address, or whether you’ve selected any text at all.
- Sometimes Gmail hangs up when loading in Safari. This is an issue with Gmail, not the bookmark.
Enjoy!

Unfortunately this didn’t work for me. After I log into GMail, I see a small red box in the upper right corner of the screen that says “Loading…” but it doesn’t progress beyond that. I’m using Safari 1.2.2. #

Philip: I’ve given out all of my invites at the moment, but I’ll put your name on my list.
Marc: Thank you for testing. The “loading” problem is an issue with Safari and Gmail, not an issue with the bookmark per se. I’ve found that about 10% of the time Gmail just hangs when loading in Safari, but hitting refresh seems to take care of the problem. #

Hey Marc… If you have extra GMail accounts… I could help you unload one here. ;) #
